From what I've seen on the posts here and in the documentation, even with v11a the only way to copy data to S3 is by using a Scale-Out Repository and adding it to the capacity tier.
Is this still the only way and if so, will this be implemented at some point, so that direct copies to S3 are possible without the use of Scale-Out Repos?
The use case would be simple: to have 2 copies in Cloud/S3 Storage
The first copy can be done in a Scale-Out Repo with capacity tier, so far so good.
But if another copy to a (different) Cloud/S3 Storage is required, things get difficult.
Sure, you could add another Scale-Out Repo with capacity tier for that as well and then run a normal copy job targeting that second Scale-Out Repo.
But as the move option can only handle inactive backup chains, you will need some disc space on the performance tier for at least 1 cycle before it can be offloaded.
This would also mean that some data is stored twice, once on the first Scale-Out Repo performance tier and then again on the second one.
What's the recommendation on implementing such a use case and is such a direct copy to Cloud/S3 Storage in the pipeline?

Hi Christian
Backup copy directly to Object Storage will be a feature in V12.

Thank you for the quick reply.
Is there a rough timeline when V12 will be released?

Your welcome.
Cannot say anything about release dates. I'm not with veeam
But there is a topic which should give you an expected release window. You can ask in that topic if there is some current news to share.
