FLR capabilities with linux ec2 instance

Post by collinp »

Is it on the roadmap to add single file restore capabilities using a FLR wizard for linux ec2 instance single file restores?

Hi Collin,

Could you clarify what distribution you are running as currently we support Linux file systems — ext2, ext3, ext4, XFS, Btrfs.

Are you facing an error or are you using another type of file system?

Ok. Great.

My issue was that the vm was encrypted. It looks like the file level restore creates the FLR helper vm in the AWS account that the Veeam appliance is in and not the AWS account that the EC2 instance needing the restore is in. Without shared encryption keys, the helper vm appliance will not be able to decrypt the keys from the ec2 instance in another AWS account. So our workaround was to restore the volume into the destination AWS account where the key can be decrypted and then mount the volume to a linux ec2 instance in that destination AWS account. So FLR is not supported when the ec2 instance is in another account and configure with non-sharable encryption keys.

Hi Collin,

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, currently this is the only workaround for it due to how encryption keys are handled. We will for sure take this feedback and look for an enhancement in a future release.
