proxy

Post by mporliod »

HI, I have two servers with VMware, one for production and the other for replicas.(the two servers are in the same rack)
On the production server I have veeam and only 2 other VMs.
To replicate the two VMs on the second server I don't need to install a dedicated proxy on the replica server, I can use the veeam server as a proxy ?
Thank you

Hi

This is correct. Technically you will be able to use the same proxy for it.

Having a second proxy is depending on the performance you want to get and with that what transport mode you’d like to use to write the replica to the second server.

So the questions would be on your expected performance and how often the VMs are replicated as well as what the VMs are running inside (high workload or maybe just small apps with little performance required)!?

Thanks

It is a very small infrastructure, a domain controller and a fileserver

ok. with that said you can try it with one proxy and if it doesn't work you can always implement a second one later.
we are pretty flexible when it comes to this kind of scalability.

so you confirm that the target proxy is recommended but not mandatory.

Correct
You can also use one proxy to be source and destination at the same time.
But as mentioned above keep an eye on your replication times and rpo needs.
You can always add a new proxy on the fly if it doesn’t work as expected.

So I can assign the role of proxy to the veeam server which is in the source vmware server and in the target server no proxy.

Correct there is no dedicated role for source and destination. It’s just the proxy role itself.
