Backup Copy to Rotated drive (RDX)
hello,
I want to add a backup copy to rotated drive (RDX). I want to rotated every day.
I already added the RDX Backup Repository and setup "this repository is backed by rotated hard drives".
now about the backup copy job itself:
I setup "immediate copy (mirroring)" and added the objects and setup 14 restore points.
At the first run I get a VBK file, with the second run of the job a VIB file is added. (didn't rotate yet)
If possible, I want to have one full backup on each rotated drive.
when I now rotated the drives, will there be now full backup on the new disk?
DISK1: Full (Monday) => Incremental (Monday) => Incremental (Monday) => etc...
DISK2: Full (Tuesday) => Incremental (Tuesday) => Incremental (Tuesday) => etc...
DISK3: etc.
So the plan is there this is only one RDX necessary to restore e.g. (any) Monday.
Is this possible this way?
Does the first full backup on disk2 etc. start automatically or do I have to start/setup manually?
Thanks for your support!
BR Johannes

Hello,
The user guide has more details: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
Best regards,
Hannes
yes. a full backup per disk is actually required to create new incremental backupswhen I now rotated the drives, will there be now full backup on the new disk?

Re: Backup Copy to Rotated drive (RDX)
hello,
thanks for your answere.
the (first) full backup takes a lot of time.
Is it possible the duplicate the full backup if the RDX drive so the backup of each media starts from the same full backup?

Re: Backup Copy to Rotated drive (RDX)
No, as mentioned on the page referenced above, in case the chain is not consistent (i.e. missing at least one of the incrementals since the last one occurred), Veeam B&R always starts a new backup chain, even if restore points from the previous backup chains are available on the attached drive.

Re: Backup Copy to Rotated drive (RDX)
hello,
so this means my idea will NOT work:
DISK1: Full (Monday) => Incremental (Monday) => Incremental (Monday) => etc...
DISK2: Full (Tuesday) => Incremental (Tuesday) => Incremental (Tuesday) => etc...
DISK3: etc.
because everytime i rotate the disk from e.g. Monday to Tuesday a new Backup Chain will be created?
in this case I would beed a backup copy job for every day, correct?

Re: Backup Copy to Rotated drive (RDX)
Hello,
if I understood your idea correctly, then it will work fine. each day has its own disk and its own backup chain.
What do you think about doing it the way you think and ask again in a week?
Best regards,
Hannes

It will work the way you described but it will start the chain anew (i.e. create a new full with subsequent increments) each time you rotate the drive.
