I already have a functional Scale out backup repository with object storage working. But I am not grasping the behavior/retention settings correctly.
TL;DR, I'm trying to backup 18TB of VMware virtual machines to local hardened Linux repositories where 30 days of restore points will always be available, and move/offload the longer term retention backups to object/cloud storage while meeting the specs below with restore points, weekly, monthly, yearly. Any guidance/help is much appreciated.
18TB of backup data.
Goal:
Scale out backup repositories
Hardened Linux repositories
Immutable backups
Object storage for longer off-site retention
30 days of restore points available on-site in the local Linux repositories
Offload/keep the following retention in object storage to free up space on the local Linux repository but still have this level of retention.
6 Weekly backups
13 monthly backups
10 yearly backups
I am using the Veeam calculator to try and determine the correct sizing for the environment and I'm not sure if I have the data correct to meet my goal here. Especially around the object storage move/copy/days part highlighted.
I'm not sure why the backup weekly, monthly, yearly is 0 in the calculator under backup..
