split across multiple backup servers

Post by Timo_Bienert »

Hello,
is it possible to split the Veeam m365 backup onto several backup servers in terms of licensing?
So use one license on multiple servers?
I'd like to share the load.

It would be the same users, one server would then "only" back up the mailboxes, the other "only" the OneDrives

thanks

Hi Timo

If you want to share the load between different server, just add a new proxy server to the vbo365 backup server.
The vbo365 server manages the backup jobs and the license, the proxy server download and processes the source data and stores the backup to his local disks.
You would have a single management console to configured, monitor and restore your data.

About how much source data and users to backup are we talking? I‘m running a single server for a few hundreds users for all workloads and it works fine.

Have a look at Veeam‘s best practices guide. The recommended maximum per server is really high (at least for company sizes I work with):

Hi,

i didn't think about the Backup Proxy, it should work so.
my problem lies more in the second stage.
We back up M365 to an onPrem VM and then back up this VM using Veam Backup and Replication for long-term backup.
I have multiple BackupDisks but it seems I need to split the VMs to fit.

thank you.
