i read that, in order to be able to do a file level restore from a windows 2012 R2 server with dedupe enabled, the mount server must be in 2K12 too with dedupe enabled.
I have a windows 2008 R2 box for veeam 11, and i enabled dedupe on my fileserver which is a 2K12 R2 box.
I had the warning window when i tried to restore a file, that's when i started to search for. My boss tried after me and told me he was able to do a FLR on an old file (most likely one which was deduped).
Is Veeam 11 able to do FLR from a deduped fileserver even in a 2K8 box ? or the restore made was not consistent ? or file was not deduped ?
The reason of successful restore might have been a mount server running a proper Windows version or a restored file residing on non-deduped volume.
But generally speaking these requirements are still in place and will not be changed in future:
If you plan to restore files from a VM running Microsoft Windows Server 2012 or later and data deduplication is enabled for some VM volumes, consider the following for the Veeam Backup & Replication components involved in the restore process:
- The machine on which a mount point is created (for example, the mount server) must run Microsoft Windows Server 2012 or later
- The machine on which a mount point is created must run Microsoft Windows Server of the same version or newer than the guest OS of a VM from which you plan to restore files.
- Data deduplication must be enabled on the machine on which a mount point is created
