Where i can find the Logs when i run an Restore Job from an Agent Backup?
Hi there ,
We do an Agent Backup from an physical Windows Server to an Synology Storage .
This Backup we restore to an virtual machine Server .
Where i can find this Restore Job Log .
Where in this Log i can see which Backup Proxy is used for the Restore Job and which Data is copied from which Place to which place ?
Our Main Backup & Replication Server is positioned in Germany .
On the Place in USA where we do the Backup and Restore , we configured another Veeam Proxy Server .
We want to make sure that this Veeam Proxy Server in USA responsible for this restore and not the German B&R Servr in Germany .
Thanks
Michael

Hello,
logs are at the backup server in c:\programdata\veeam\backup per default. I use Notepad++ with "find in files" when I search for something.
Best regards,
Hannes

how? Is it about instant VM recovery? Then there is no proxy involved. Key is, that the mount server of the Synology Storage is set to something in the US. If NAS protocols are used (SMB / NFS), then also the gateway server of the NAS repository must be in the US.This Backup we restore to an virtual machine Server .
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Where i can find the Logs when i run an Restore Job from an Agent Backup?
Hi ,
Here a little bit more exactely .
We have positioned an second Backup Proxy in US Side .
Our Main Veeam Backup Server is here in Germany .
On US Side we create an Job which backup per Agent an physically Windows Server to the NAS in US Side .
With this Backup Proxy in US Side we connect the Synology as Backup Repository NAS in US .
No we want to Restore Windows Files from this Backup on the NAS Repository to an VM in USA .
What is the way the Restore takes .
With my understanding the Backup Proxy in US reads the Backup File on the NAS in US Side and copy the Data to the VM in US Side ?
My Question where i can find out which way exactelcy the restore Process uses to copy the Files to another VM .
Because we have very sad Restore copy speed for this Job .
Thanks
Michael

Hello,
for file level recovery "copy to", a VBR console in the USA should be the solution for "keep restore traffic local".
The user guide has a description of how "copy to" works (which you seem to be using if I got it right).
Best regards,
Hannes
PS: we plan improvements on that in V12

Re: Where i can find the Logs when i run an Restore Job from an Agent Backup?
Thank you Hannes for your explanation .
Means i have to open the VBR Console on the Proxy over which i want to copy Files from an Repository to another VM at the same Site ?
Or does it mean when i do an "copy to" restore then all of the Traffic goes over the "Main" Veeam Backup & Replication Server ?
When i check the Graphic in your Link , what is the Mount Server . Is it the Server which is connected with the Repository on which the Backup Files reside ?
Right ?
Thanks
Michael

Hello,
mount server (and gateway server because you use NAS) are linked in my first answer.
"copy to" sends all data through the console (up to V11).
A console needs to be installed in USA to keep traffic in the USA.
Best regards,
Hannes

Hi ,
When i open the Veeam Backup Console in USA Side , the Console shows "connected with [Backup Server in Germany ]
And when i read your Post correctly then the whole Traffic of the "Copy to" Restore runs from USA to the Veeam Server in Germany and then Back to the target VM in USA , right ?

Re: Where i can find the Logs when i run an Restore Job from an Agent Backup?
But the User Guid told me "The machine where the mount point is created connects to the Veeam Backup & Replication console. The connection is performed over network or VIX API/vSphere Web Services if a connection over the network cannot be established. If you recover files to a shared folder, the Veeam Backup & Replication console connects to this folder."
When i open the Console on SUSISR01 then the Console shows , Connected to Veeam Backup Server in Germany .
Sorry i dont understand the way the Backup runs .
Can u give me please an detailed way where my Restore Files from the "Copy to " Job move through my Systems .
Can it be that the Restore Job use as Mount Server our Server in Germany and not the Serveri US Side where the Services are installed ?

Re: Where i can find the Logs when i run an Restore Job from an Agent Backup?
So i found the Error .
In the Config of the Repository on US Side there was an Mount Server configured which no longer exist in the Environment .
I think therefore Veeam uses another Mount Server . In Germany or other Sides .
This is ithink the reason for the poor Performance .
I put in now the right Mount Server and try the Restore again .
