Veeam on 2008 vs 2003

Post by others78 »

Hello,
We have a strange speed behavior with Veeam 6 installed on 2008 physical compared to a 2003,
Same job:SAN Direct. No VSS.Differential. 1 VM

Server Veeam: 2003, with Veeam 6: duration: 02:32 speed:264Mb/s
Server Veeam: 2008, with Veeam 6: duration: 06:51 speed: 98Mb/s

On the 2008:
no MPIO, we have already patched Veeam 6 with patch #2, also applied "set global autotuninglevel=disabled"
Do you have any idea?

Thank you

Regards

Please clarify a few moments regarding your setup:
- Do you backup the same VM with both jobs? Is it turned on or of?
- What is the target storage in both cases?
- What do the bottleneck stats in Realtime Statistics window show for these jobs?

Hello Foggy,
1)Same VM, turned on
2)Target: is a Linux Machine, local storage
3)Source

My colleagues suggest me to downgrade the server to 2003 :-)

Are those numbers for the full runs or incremental? Could you try to run both jobs for the turned off VM to compare? Is 2003 also physical and does it have similar connection?

Those numbers are incremental. Both are physical and same connection. Same performance more/less also with the VM turned off.

Could the reason be in different versions of iSCSI Initiator? You can consider some tweaks described in our FAQ:
Gostev wrote:Q: Any tips on improving iSCSI network throughput on Windows 2008?
A: See the following guide: Improving direct-from-SAN backup speed with iSCSI SAN (courtesy of our iSCSI guru joergr). If this does not help, you may want to try some other settings mentioned in this discussion Poor vStorage iSCSI SAN speed after Windows 2008 Upgrade. I don't recommend making these changes unless you actually have performance issue.

As wrote, already applied "set global autotuninglevel=disabled" and we don't have any balancer, so no Tcp1323Opts.
I think that the only solution is to downgrade the OS to 2003 :|

Still seems to be a kind of environmental (traffic route, hardware differences) issue to me..
