Do customized ESXi versions not work with Veeam?

Post by BobbyHood »

We're about to inherit a standalone ESXi host 6.7.0 Update 3 that states on it's web interface "You are running a DellEMC Customized version of VMware ESXi Image." Could this cause compatibility issues with Veeam?

Hello,
Yes, those versions of ESXi are fully supported as well.
Those versions are normal ESXi with additional .vib packages per vendor, like drivers, and some vSphere Client apps sometimes, but the core libraries and APIs we utilize to do our backup are exactly the same.

Give it a try and let us know.

I haven't tried the DELL version myself since we only have HPE Servers, but I can confirm that there are no problems with the customized version from HPE. So I would not think that you should have any issues. As jorgedlcruz wrote the base version is always the same with just additional drivers for the specific hardware.

No problems here with the Dell customized version of ESXI. Pretty much, the custom versions just include the vendor-specific drivers for their hardware. Not much else there to cause issues AFAIK.

So what kind of issues are you having that we can help with?
