Linux Hardened Repository using iSCSI

Post by shaazaminator »

Hello,

I'm trying to create a Linux hardened repository using iSCSI for the storage on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS using a Synology NAS for the iSCSI target.
Everything works with the iSCSI, I can find the target, login, format, and mount the storage.
My problem is when I reboot the Linux box the iSCSI storage disappears.
The UUID of the storage is in Fstab with the auto mount option, and have configured open-iscsi to automatically log into the target.

Has anyone used this particular setup and been successful?

Trying to avoid having to run startup scripts just to get the Linux box to connect to the iSCSI target on startup.

Thanks!

Hi Doug

You’ll need to tell Ubuntu upon boot that a iscsi lun needs to be mounted.
There is different ways to do it.
One example is shown here:

Thanks

Hello,
How does it look like your /etc/iscsi/iscsid.conf ? Do you have your node.startup = automatic, and do you have your sudo systemctl enable iscsid ?

That is how I have my iSCSI presented from NetApps, HPE, etc, to my Linux Proxies to do directSAN, and they automount without any problem.

Hey Jorge,

Editing the .conf file per your recommendation seems to have done the trick.
Not certain why that little bit of information was left out of the documentation I followed, but that is life in Linux land sometimes.

Thanks to you both for the excellent suggestions!

Awesome!
I have followed some instructions in the past, and as they were not completed, same as in your case, ended up doing my own steps.

This is for Proxy DirectSAN, but anyways, for Repo are the same of course.
