Instant recovery check space

Post by petitbleu »

Hi,
I had never paid attention when testing instant recovery with hyper-v. But I just discovered a problem when testing a large server. My customer has a file server of several tera. He wanted to make a test of restoration in instant recovery, except that on hyper-v it makes a preallocation of space. Is it possible to change this behavior, because I do not have all his tera available. On vmware there is no such behavior? Is there a modification of this behavior in v12?

Hi Manuel

Yes, VBR will pre-allocate the storage for Instant Recovery.
In V12, we plan to provide an option to allow pre-allocating the vm with dynamic expanding disks instead of fixed disks.

Thanks

Yes, this enhancement coming in v12 will definitely help those with space concerns. Currently testing it out now. :)
