Backup SMB Shares via Veeam Agent for Windows

Hello

A user has a Windows server where he mapped several SMB shares that he wants to
backup with the Veeam agent installed on the Windows server.

Is this working at all?

No, Veeam Agent protects only direct attached disks and no fileshares.
You can use our Fileshare Backup Jobs from VBR.

Hello,
There is an extra option if you want the best of both worlds, at minimum cost. Veeam Agent for Linux, meaning you will need a Linux server somewhere, VM/physical, etc. And you present those NFS/SMB to that Linux, install Agent for Linux, and use the snapshot-less file-level backup.

I have seen some Customers using this for some specific use cases where the SMB needed a daily backup and that's it, and it worked well.

For simplicity, ease to use, and restoration, Fabian already mentioned a purposed-built technology we have - NAS Backup.
