Veeam Linux agent support for Oracle ASM?

Post by ARycroft »

Hi,

We are trying to use Veeam to backup an Oracle ASM environment. Is there a oradmap for when the Veeam Linux agent will support the backup of the Oracle ASM environment?

Kind regards

Hello,
one of the goals of ASM is to prevent 3rd party access to data. So the answer is: "not in foreseeable timeframe".

I have a few questions around ASM:
1) are you using ASMlib or ASMfd?
2) do you use ASM for standalone machines or only for RAC clusters?

Best regards,
Hannes

Thank you for your response Hannes,

They are using ASMlib.

They use ASM in an Oracle RAC cluster environment.

It is proving quite a mission to provide a 3-2-1 (disk to disk to tape) backup solution for an Oracle ASM environment with Veeam, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

ok, then ASM is only one piece... also RAC clusters would need to be supported.

The real request seems to be able to bring RMAN backups to tape. There is a workaround and we know that we need to improve that (no timeline available)

For foreseeable future, I would go with scale-out-repositories and capacity tier (object storage). I see, that's not what you want, but that's what's technically possible.
