unattached cifs share
Is there a way for veeam to backup a cifs share that's not shared from a vm (standalone share on nas)?

Aaron, could you please clarify what do you mean by "backup a cifs share that's not shared from a vm"? Thanks.

sure - it's an independent cifs share on my nas box - not a share from a physical machine or vm. make sense?

If you are talking about using CIFS share on NAS as a target for your backups, then I suppose this is the most commonly used type of backup target among our customers.

Re: unattached cifs share
let me try again! my nas server has the ability to create a cifs share on which I'm planning to copy over user folders. I need a way to back up those folders and want to use veeam to do it. Since the share wasn't created on a vm or physical windows machine I'm not sure how to back up those files using veeam

Uhm, reading again at the OP, maybe the NAS is a "source" for files to be backed up.
I read in another thread there is a command line tool "mklink" to mount a UNC path as a folder in windows drive, but I do not know if it works also for letting Veeam backup this mounted share. The thread is this:
Remote Agent Mapped Drive
Luca.

You can use File Copy job to back up those folders.
