Remove license from users

Post by johannesk »

Hi,

We have some users we don't want to backup onedrive/mailbox data for in our M365. Those users have been backed up with VBO already for some time.

Now that I have put those users into a exclude group that configured to be excluded from mailbox/archive/onedrive backup - should I not be able to release the license from those users with Remove-VBOLicensedUser?

Or will I need to remove old backup data of those users also?

regards,
Jóhannes

You are right. In order to remove a license before the „normal“ 31 days, you have to delete all user data from the repository.

So he license is removed when a user has been excluded from the backup of onedrive/mailbox/archive for 31 days? Is that somewhere documented?

Yes.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... tml?ver=60
The Veeam license is consumed by objects (mailboxes, OneDrive for Business accounts, SharePoint personal sites) for which at least one restore point has been created within the last 31 days. If an object was not backed up for 31 days, its license is automatically revoked.
