Migrate Database to SQL Cluster Always ON

Post by sarapinho »

Hi,

Currently the Veeam database is in SQL Express, I need to migrate to an AlwaysON SQL Cluster. This cluster Veeam takes log backups every 5 minutes.

Doubt the veeam database being in this cluster can I have a problem? Since I can't select which base should I back up the logs?

Hello,
This cluster Veeam takes log backups every 5 minutes.
that would cause chicken / egg or catch 22 issues.
can I have a problem?
yes :-)

https://www.veeam.com/kb2301 has some more details.
KB2301 wrote:Please be advised that SQL AlwaysOn Availability Groups require the databases to be in Full Recovery mode. Veeam Backup and Replication does not currently truncate its database, as we expect it to be in simple recovery mode. This will require you to manually truncate the SQL log file to ensure it doesn't grow too large.

Best regards,
Hannes

just a note: in V12 we will also support Postgres (if it's about costs and you are able to stay on SQL Express until V12 arrives)
