We have an offsite physical file server that is about 20TB. WAN speeds are very slow. I would like to make a full backup and then run incremental and synthetic fulls after that. I would like to make the initial full on a USB drive and then physically move/copy it to our datacenter where the incrementals and synthetics will be run from after that. Is it possible to use the offsite physical server as a backup proxy to back up itself to the usb drive that would be plugged in to itself? Or will I need a 2nd server at the offsite location to perform the initial full? And once I do get a full, do I just copy it to a repository in our datacenter and change the job to point to that repository for the incrementals and synthetic fulls after that?

Re: Can file server back up itself to usb drive?
Hi Fslot
Backup proxies are not required for Veeam Agent Backups. Only if you want to use storage snapshot integration.
Have a look at this kb article. I believe one of the solutions fits your scenario:

Thanks
