Question about retention

Hi,

I’d like to do something which will be frowned upon and that’s backup when I want to, so not every X days.

I’ve yet to download the free version of veeam but I’ve seen some settings about retention.

What I’d like to do is create a full image backup every few months on two machines.

Is this possible, if so which options do I need to select, when I see the retention setting of 7 days it makes me think after 7 days I won’t be able to recover on a backup from a few months ago, is that true?

Also the bootable media creation for bare metal restore, I assume I just need to create that once on one computer, and then I can use that on both computers?

no, if you create backups only every few months (and nothing in between). If you install the free agent, then you will see the Keep backups for <N> days (excluding days with no backup) option. The user guide explains it

Recovery media works for all machines, as long as the drivers are included (happens automatically during creation). So the answer is: "it depends"
