Retention policy repository

Post by morris.sala »

Hi
I have configured a job with a retention policy of 3 years for the backup of my tenant.
Yesterday the repository was full.
I try to change the retention policy from 3 to 1 year and i apply the retention policy daily.

Nothing has changed.
What can i do for decreasing the retention and the space in my repository ?
Thanks

Hi Morris

Welcome to the forums. Are you using local repos or object storage?

I assume, it's a repository on local disks. Veeam uses JET databases (same as MS Exchange Server) to store the data. When backups gets deleted from the repository, then this jet databases will not get smaller. They stay at their size. New backups will first use the freed-up space before the db files grows again.

If you need to shrink them, you should ask support for their help.

[MERGED] Repository shrink ?

Post by Drakko »

Hello,
after removing datas from a repository in VBO, its size doesn't change.
I think that data that has been removed are just marked as free and can be overwriten.

But In my case I wan't to remove many datas and I would like to shrink the repository.

Is there a way to do this ? Powershell ?

Hi Philippe,

I merged your topic to the corresponding thread.
You're right, when backup data is moved to another repository or deleted from a repository database (manually, or by retention) the database size doesn't shrink but the free space is then reused for the new backups.
To shrink the database, please contact our support as suggested in the comments above.

Thanks!
