Share 1 "Backup Proxy" with 2 Main Veeam backup server
Hi,
I'm starting to study v6 version in a vmware environment. ( v5 in production in my company ).
My simple question was:
Is it possible to use a server with role "Backup Proxy" from 2 other "main Veeam Backup Server" ? or then Backup Proxy and Backup Repository need to be dedicated to only one "Main Veeam Backup Server".
My goal is to have 2 independant scheduler ( for PRA in active / active environment ), but sharing Proxy Ressources to optimize replications.

Hello, backup proxies and backup repositories cannot be shared among different backup server. Thank you.

Ok, many thanks for this information.
Perhaps this information should be wrote on user guide, or a warning shown when user try to do that, because VBR does'nt prevent that.

Actually it is mentioned in the release notes document included with your download, but thanks for the feedback!

Re: Share 1 "Backup Proxy" with 2 Main Veeam backup server
Is this still correct as of V7 and Wan Accelerators?
I'd like to backup clients Veeam servers to a central data centre, they are already committed to Veeam Enterprise Plus so all have WAN acceleration.
Problem that I see with any form of centralised backup is that each client needs its own WAN accelerator at DC, so multiple VM's running each WAN accelerator and Backup Transports.
I haven't found any other way of doing it, is this on the map for Veeam?
Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
Backup proxies/WAN accelerators can be shared between two different backup servers, though all task concurrency limits will be accounted for each backup server individually.
Here is an existing topic with the same questions > WAN accelerator setup
Thanks!

Thanks Vitaliy,
That is going to make it a lot easier.
If multiple servers use the same WAN accelerator will I see better WAN acceleration as there are different chunks of data that could be the same at each location?
Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan,
As far as I remember dedupe catalog is not shared between different pairs of WAN accelerators, so I don't think there will any difference in this configuration.
Thanks!
