VMhosts in Maintenance Mode

Post by maekee »

What is the best practise way to put VMware ESX Hosts in Maintenance Mode when we need for example to install more disk etc.

Can we disable the Alerts but not put the machines in real nworks Maintenance Mode.

Put the VEM-server into Maintenance Mode?

Maekee:

yes it is possible to disable the alerts without going into maintenance mode using the override and disable option; however based upon your circumstances, maintenance mode appears to be the best option based on the fact that you will need to do an installation of disk[s].

The following links to Microsoft's TechNet will explain in greater detail why I recommended using maintenance mode in your case

Hi, Just wanted to add that it is not required to put the nworks VEM server into (SCOM) Maintenance Mode - you can put just the ESX Host itself into SCOM Maintenance Mode. Our 100% integration into SCOM allows this :) . You can right-click the ESX Host (e.g. in State or Topology view) and choose Maintenance Mode options, just as you would for a Windows server in SCOM.

Cheers
