Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 Capacity Calculator - no size

Post by bertdhont »

Hello,

Anyone else having issues with the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 Capacity Calculator (https://calculator.veeam.com/vbo/backupsizing)?

I'm able to connect to the organization, I can see number of users, but when I select 'Backup Sizing' I only get a white screen with no information.

Hi Bert,

Let me check with the team what could cause this as I'm seeing the same issue.

Now it's offline completely. My sales team are not happy! I won't be happy either if they start asking me to calculate it all manually.
Please can we get this sorted quickly given it's now been broken / offline for a week?
Thanks

Noticed it being offline as well today and I am always asked about calculations so having this going will be a blessing.

Hi guys

The calculator is currently being re-worked. But we don't have an ETA yet.
If you have any questions, please get in contact with your pre-sales engineer at Veeam.

Thanks

Forgive me but surely the correct way to do this was to leave the old one in place and write the new one then swap them over - not break then lock off the old one?

If this was broken due to changes by MS - surely those changes were known about, so it wouldn't have been rocket science to know this would break the calculator that our sales teams rely on...

I'll ask our sales team to directly contact the Veeam pre-sales to do the calculations on behalf of our sales team.

I have to agree @AlexHeylin on that one leave the original then swap over when the new one is done. Ah well, good thing for the BP site to help with calculations. LOL

Is there another calculator/site for O365 backup size planning?

Hi Chris,

The calculator was based on formulas and maximums described here:
https://bp.veeam.com/vbo/guide/design/sizing/

Hi Guys

The calculator is back online.
Unfortunately, the connection to the M365 Tenant has to be removed because of certain reasons.
Currently the source data must be collected manually from the tenant.

Thanks

Hi,
We see it back online - so thanks for that. Unfortunately, it's near useless. Especially as there's no indication on the calculator how anyone, let alone our sales teams, are supposed to collect the data to feed into the calculator.

I've just had our head of sales on the phone again - complaining that they've got two clients they need to quote for O365 backup today, and wondering if perhaps we should quote them on another solution where sizing doesn't matter (only O365 license count, which is easy to find). I can see their point.

I think I speak for many of us here when I say we need this to go back to self-service (for our sales teams) ASAP. If the data can be got programmatically, then the calculator should be able to get it itself. Techs have neither the time, nor the patience, to be trying to engineer our own scripts to pull this data from O365 and run calculations for every quote our sales team need to send out.

Thanks

Alex

We are currently working on a script to collect the necessary data. It will still be a manual step to put the collected data into the calculator, but you don't have to collect it manually from various sources.
I will keep you posted.

Thanks Fabian. At least having a script to help collecting data will be something and here is hoping the connection comes back at some point.

Hi there, just wondering if the script that @Mildur mentioned is anywhere near completion? I also had to use the calculator today and noticed the O365 connection has disappeared. Cheers

Please can we get some focus on getting this calculator back online and working fully?

Our sales team is now guessing storage required for proposals, and in some cases they're well short which leads to both technical and account management / sales problems as we have to increase client billing shortly after they sign up on a lower fee.
