S3 in UAE region

Post by sreejiths » 1 person likes this post

I see that the UAE region is now available in AWS for S3.
How can I get this in Veeam, I am currently running 11.0.1.1261.
Is the any option to update it manually or any interim hotfix before the major release... which I could do it manually?

Hello,
yes, editing the C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication\Backup\AmazonS3Regions.xml should do the job until an update is available.

https://docs.aws.amazon.com/general/latest/gr/s3.html

The QA team plans to verify it in a couple of weeks (due to the current load and vacation season) and update the list of supported regions if everything goes well. Thanks!

thanks for the update guys, appreciate it.
C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication\Backup\AmazonS3Regions.xml
For some reasons i don't find the above path in my set up, could it be different in the latest version?

Hello,
please check with support and post the case number for reference. It must be there (also Azure and Google regions have their own XML in that path).

Best regards,
Hannes

Found the file in below path <install drive>\Veeam\Backup, mine was at E:\Veeam\Backup\

Edited the file as below , added UAE copying from Bahrain location.

Code: Select all

  <Region Id="me-south-1" Name="Middle East (Bahrain)" Type="Global">
    <Endpoint Type="S3">s3.me-south-1.amazonaws.com</Endpoint>
    <Endpoint Type="S3">s3.dualstack.me-south-1.amazonaws.com</Endpoint>
    <Endpoint Type="EC2">ec2.me-south-1.amazonaws.com</Endpoint>
    <Endpoint Type="IAM">iam.amazonaws.com</Endpoint>
    <Protocol>HTTP</Protocol>
    <Protocol>HTTPS</Protocol>
    <LocationConstraint>me-south-1</LocationConstraint>
    <SignatureVersion>4</SignatureVersion>
  </Region>

<Region Id="me-central-1" Name="Middle East (UAE)" Type="Global">
    <Endpoint Type="S3">s3.me-central-1.amazonaws.com</Endpoint>
    <Endpoint Type="S3">s3.dualstack.me-central-1.amazonaws.com</Endpoint>
    <Endpoint Type="EC2">ec2.me-central-1.amazonaws.com</Endpoint>
    <Endpoint Type="IAM">iam.amazonaws.com</Endpoint>
    <Protocol>HTTP</Protocol>
    <Protocol>HTTPS</Protocol>
    <LocationConstraint>me-central-1</LocationConstraint>
    <SignatureVersion>4</SignatureVersion>
  </Region>
The console refresh or reopening didnt reflect any, waiting for a job to finish and will restart the server. keep you posted.
Any other tip?

Thanks, Sreejith, for sharing the results of your findings; much appreciated. Once the QA team confirms that no issues are found with the new region, it will become generally supported.
