Can't seem to authenticate to Data Domain

Post by MikeLeone »

Hello. I'm having an issue with Veeam B&R v11. I have a Data Domain 6400, and I want to have Veeam write backups to it. So we are an Active Directory place, so I configured the DD to use AD authentication. I created an AD group (DataDomain Operators), created an AD user (dd_admin), put it in the group, configured the DD use allow that AD group in a role of "Backup Operator". I tested it by logging in as that user into the web GUI of the Data Domain; worked, I got right in. Life is good!

I go to the B&R console, I start to add a DD. I give it the FQDN of the DD, and add the credentials, exactly as I used them in the web GUI of the DD (dd_admin@my.domain). Put in the password. Clicked next, and it told me "Invalid user credentials. Host: [(my DD host name)]. User: [dd_admin@my.domain]".

So what am I missing here? I know the credentials I entered into Veeam are valid DD credentials, I was able to log right in. But Veeam apparently thinks otherwise. Why?

(I also tried use a local DD user credentials; that didn't work either).

What am I missing here?

Hello Mike,
Do you think you can review this little part of the configuration to see if that is the issue perhaps? post319290.html#p319290

You can take a look in the DD logs as that forum post mentions. Login on the DataDomain using the GUI will do it from 127.0.0.1, or the own DD IP, as it is the own server serving the webapp.

Please let us know.

Got it resolved. I happened to be having a meeting with my Data Domain support this morning, and I asked the same question. Turns out, I'm an idiot. LOL We had created a user on the DD that was entitled to use the "ddboost" protocol. Once I used the credentials of *that* user (which is local to the DD), it was able to connect to the DD. And I am right now running a test backup from VMware VM to the DD, and it is going. (a little slower than I would have liked, but that's a completely separate issue).

So now I am connected, and all that's left is doing the rest of my DD testing (reading from DD to writing to tape, to be sent for offsite storage). But that's for tomorrow. For now, my problem was not using the correct user with the desired configuration on the DD.

Thanks!

Awesome to read Michael; glad it all sorted out. We have a few guides combined with EMC to get the most out of the integration, some links: Thanks!
