Support for Teams Shared Channels
Dear Community,
since a couple of months, Microsoft has rolled out then new Feature "Shared Channels".
It seems that this is also a "Connected SharePoint" Site in the background, like for "Private Channels":
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/Share ... cted-sites
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/micro ... oint-sites
Unfortunately VBO seems not to backup these Shared Channel sites. At least I cannot find them.
Does anyone know if VBO supports it? Or will support it in the future?
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Support for Teams Shared Channels
Hi Chris
Shared Channels are currently not supported by a teams job. But you should be able to use a sharepoint backup Job to backup the content of this sites. I can see the private channel and shared channel sharepoint sites in my sharepoint restore point.
Thanks
Fabian

Hey @CKESSLER
It is certainly on our roadmap to support this. I cannot give any ETA at this point in time I'm afraid though

Thanks for your feedback.
That is strange. I have one job to backup all sites of the organization.
I just opened the latest backup with Explorer for SharePoint, but the shared channel site is not included. Not like in your screenshot.
My version is 6.0.0.367

Chris

Hi Chris
I'm using build 6.1.0.254 P20220825. But they also should be visible in your version.
Can you see the shared channel backed up in the session log?
Thanks
Fabian

Re: Support for Teams Shared Channels
Yes, I can see it in the session log. But unfortunetely not when I open the latest backup with the Veeam SharePoint Explorer.
I created a Test Teams Group, starting with "TST-" in the naming. Also the Shared Channel begins with "TST-"
So I would assume to find it in alphabetic order in the explorer. But here I only see the group, not the channel.

Re: Support for Teams Shared Channels
That doesn't sound right to me.
If the channel backup is listed in the session log, then you should be able to see it.
I suggest to open a support case and let them check the logs.
Thanks
Fabian

Re: Support for Teams Shared Channels
Hello,
just to inform you. I opened case # 05657026
Feedback was that shared and private channels are not supported officially.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... =60#backup
However, during troubleshooting the case, I had to create a test job only for this Shared Channel site. Result: This site was backed up and also I could find it in the backup with the Explorer.
Still in the main job which backs up ALL sites, it does not show up in the Explorer.
Veeam does not support further, since it is not supported...
So for me I will deactivate the feature of Shared Channels in M365, since we cannot backup it.
Regards,
Chris
