Architecture Vsphere backup proxy and backup repository

Post by archvector »

Hi everyone,

During a VM backup, I would like to know how data is copied from a "Vsphere backup proxy" (located on VM A) to a "Windows server backup REFS repository" (located on a VM B). Is it necessarely done by LAN ?
By reading the veeam FAQ and documentation, i understand that the source data is accessed by the Vsphere backup proxy through network (nbd) or SAN (san or hotadd modes) . Does also the target (VBR backup repository) is also concerned by hotadd or SAN access for instance?

Thanks :)

Hi

The vSphere proxy server (VM A) and the ReFS windows server (VM B) have both the Veeam data mover service installed.
After the proxy has processed the VM data, the backup data will be transferred between the two data movers over LAN to the backup repository on your reFS windows server. This process is independent on how the proxy servers reads the VM data from the vSphere environment.

Thanks
