Unable to inventory library
Esxi 7 host
HP DL380 gen10
Esxi 7.0 Update 3
Passed through HPE P882 HBA
Tape Library
HP MSL G3
LTO 6 drive installed
LTO5 unplugged from tape library
Library inventories without an issue from the front display.
I noticed that veeam only detects 1/2 of the bar codes on the tape and when running an inventory give the following error
"10/15/2022 10:03:49 PM Error Loading tape DON00002 from Slot 5 to Drive 2 (Server: VEEAMBR, Library: HP MSL G3 Series 5.70, Drive ID: Tape0) Error: Failed to call RPC function 'LoadMedium': The operation completed successfully. DeviceIoControl(ChangerGetElementStatus) with sourceAddress = '4', destAddress = '1', symLink = '\\.\Changer0'."
I have done a full reset of the veeam library, reset the tape library, and freshly reinstalled veeam
I tried the workaround where"Re: After the 9.5 u4a update I can't control my tape unit

Follow up: I tried the following
The 'fix' / 'workaround' is to offline the tapes (remove them from the changer), delete them from the catalog, re-install them into the changer and re-inventory the tapes."

Re: Unable to inventory library
Which library model do you have? And does it detect the half of the barcode, or half of the tapes?
It's not supported to mix multiple tape generations in the same library. I suppose Veeam sees the LTO5 drive, even though it's disconnected. Please disable the drive under tape infrastructure and retry the inventory.

Re: Unable to inventory library
LTO 5 tape drive has been disabled in Veeam and i have removed it completely from the library.
going forward the library only has the LTO 6 tape drive and tapes.
i factory reset the library once more to remove any knowledge of the second tape drive.
i re-ran the inventory on the library and it detects all 12 LTO 6 tapes. the library has read all 12 bar codes on the tapes as well.
i have re-ran the inventory in Veeam with the same error.
I am running the latest version of B&R 11

Re: Unable to inventory library
It's odd that the error message says tape0 while mentioning drive 2. Have you done any successful tape backups so far? If not I would try to completely remove the library under tape infrastructure, delete the corresponding windows devices and then reconnect them again. Also do make sure to install the latest firmware(6.0 I think) and drivers.
If the errors still appear the there's no way around support.

Re: Unable to inventory library
You said the library has the old drive still present.
Partition the library so that this drive become invisible to us.
I would as well open a support case. Our support has some options in the registry to overwrite the detection logic.
