Thresholds - vDisk: how to change thresholds

Post by wellssh »

We are currently running nWorks MP v5.7. I've been looking around trying to figure out how to change/Override the Threshold for the vDisk monitor. We need to apply this to a specific VM. The properties of the Availability Monitor only display the Thresholds as: Threshold1 and Threshold2, however, I can't find anywhere that defines what these values actually are.

Anyone know how/where to change the vDisk low on free space thresholds for nWorks 5.7?

Thanks,
Sven

Hi Sven,

You should be able to override these thresholds from the SCOM console, in the usual way.

Go to SCOM console, Authoring, select Monitors in the tree.
Remove any scope, and search for 'vDisk'
You will find the Monitor 'nworks VMware: VM GuestOS vDisk is low on free space' with Target vDisk.
Right-click and go to Overrides - For a specific object
Choose the vDisk for the specific VM you want to override
You will see the usual override dialog. Choose your new threshold(s) - defaults are threshold2= 5 (warning) and threshold1= 2 (error). Note - These values represent percent free space on the disk.
Save your changes in an overrides MP (recommend an MP dedicated to nworks overrides, this is Microsoft best practice)

That's it! New thresholds are now running for your chosen VM vDisk(s).

Hope that helps - any queries let us know.

Cheers

Hi Alec,

I understand where and how to change the thresholds, what I am missing is what does "Threshold2 =5" actually mean? is that 90%, 92%, 85%, etc. The same question goes for "Threshold1=2"...is that 94%, 95%, 98%, etc.?

Where is it configured/designated what these numbers actually mean?

For instance, what if I want a Warning at 93% full and an Error/Critical at 98% full. How do know which values identify this?

Regards,
Sven

Hi Sven,

The threshold values mean 'percent FREE space' remaining on the disk.

So, if you want to a Warning at 93% full - you should set Threshold2 = 7. As 93% full means 7% free space remaining.
Likewise, for Error at 98% set Threshold 1 = 2.

Cheers
