Exchange Explorer Restore - Merged Items

Post by sbabcock »

I restored a small mailbox from an Exchange EDB to M365 using Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange

I selected Changed and Missing Items during the Restore

I ran this twice, expecting the second time to come back with 0 items restored
Instead it came back with 270 Items Merged

I ran it a third time - same result 270 Items merged

What is being merged ? This mail account is dormant with no activity ?

Hi Steve

When restoring exchange items there shouldn't be any "merging".
It looks like a bad UI text. If necessary we will adjust the text in a future version to make it more clear.

No, you don't have too. I see the same behavior in my lab and so we can do it internally.
I'll update the topic if I have any news to share.

Thanks,

Hi Steve

We got an answer from QA.
The Exchange Item will not be recreated when you restore to the same location again.
But each time you to the restore, we will update some properties used internally by VB365 on the restored item.
That's why you see "merge".

Thanks,

@Mildur

That still sounds like confusing text. Maybe change "merged" to "updated"?

Hi Steve

Yes, we are already discussing about a better naming for a future version.
