Does Veeam Azure Deployment Create a Storage Account Automatically?
Hey everyone - case 05864977. We opened a case but didn't really get the answer I was looking for, thought the forums may have better insight.
I am not a Veeam Azure backup expert, but I have deployed it about 4 times. In my other deployments, I could have SWORN Veeam automatically created a storage account that I used as a target for backup data. Yea, I know I can make one manually, but I'm confused as to why the "auto created" one seems to be missing.
Just to verify, I went into a couple of other tenants where I have deployed this, and sure enough, there is a "veeamxyz123" storage account with a name so random, I never would have created it - (image https://imgur.com/e1r88S5).
Can someone help explain to me what I missed here as far as Veeam making it's own storage account? The more I think about it, I have a hunch that this happened during the deployment of the Azure appliance....
Thanks!!

Hi Cory,
Veeam does not create a backup repository for you and it was never possible, however, based on what you describe you're probably referring to this option: Storage Class -> Auto-create all tiers.
Can you please double-check that?
Thanks!

Thanks, we have seen that, but that doesn't seem to be the thing. Let me ask a bit of a different question - what mechanism would have created a Veeam storage account that looks like the one in my screenshot?

Yes, sure. This storage account was created for internal purposes: 1. for storing the VSS utility which is uploaded to target machines when you enable VSS in the policy settings 2. when a worker is deployed we download the required binaries via a SAS link from that storage account.

Thank you - and does that happen during deployment from the Azure Marketplace? Wondering where ours went during deployment I guess it is not recommended to store Veeam backup data on that storage?

Re: Does Veeam Azure Deployment Create a Storage Account Automatically?
Hey Cory,
These accounts are created on-demand (for example, when we need to spin up a worker or use VSS). Yes, it is not recommended to store backups in these storage accounts. You should be using our own ones especially if you want to use immutability later on.
Thanks!
