Veeam B&R 12 and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 6a

Post by DMIT »

Hello,

Has anyone else had issues with restoring data from Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 after upgrading Veeam B&R to version 12? We have both B&R and Microsoft 365 Backup running on the same server. After the upgrade, when trying to restore SharePoint data we get the following error:

"Incompatible Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 server version (received: 11.1.0.600, expected: 12.0.0.2858)

We currently are running version 6.1.0.438 P20221215 for Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365. I am unable to find a later release... Am I missing something or is B&R V12 not compatible with the existing M365 Backup version. If so, this would be a major oversight for the relase of V12.

Hey Jeff,

v12 explorers are indeed not compatible with the current version of VB365 (the compatible version, v7, is due in a couple of weeks). As a temporary workaround, you can install the VB365 v6a explorers on a remote machine and connect to the server that has VB365 6a installed on it

Disappointing that the 365 v7 wasn't able to go GA along with VBR v12, to keep the explorers compatible.

Hopefully "a couple of weeks" is real as I can see a lot of our customers holding off VBR v12 upgrade until the compatible 365 v7 is released.

A couple of weeks is indeed real. We are in the regression phase of testing at this moment

You can copy the folder C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication\Explorers\Exchange from an older install and just run it out of the copied directory directly.

AFAIK, the recommendation was (last I checked) to put VBM365 and VBR on separate servers as well because of some shared resources between the two.

I thought VBM365 and VBR were collapsing into a single platform so the need of separate servers wasn't the long term model.

In regards to timeline, any idea of when an announcement may be coming to advise a launch date? We too are in the same boat as OP in regards to explorer versions

@NAP-LN,

As Mike said above, we're expecting it within 2 weeks or so.

I wasn't aware of this. Good to know.

@NAP-LN @dloseke While the goal is indeed a single platform, we still advice to separate the servers at this point in time (unless you need to offer Cloud Connect to your tenants). But even that model is best replaced by the self-service portal. The single platform will most likely look a bit different in the long term future

Hi Brendan,

VB365 v7 is fully compatible with VBR v12, and upgrading will help to fix the problem )
