Synthetic full backups for AHV VM backups in Veeam v12

Post by romulanvox »

I read the release notes for Veeam v12 and the updated AHV Proxy (v4). One the improvements is the ability to create synthetic full backups for AHV VM backups. In previous version, only active full backups are supported for AHV VM backups.

I'd like to know if the size of the synthetic full backups (in Veeam v11a) are expected to be smaller than the active full backups (in Veeam v12). I've several DB2 databases on Linux VMs that are 1-2TB , with almost no dedupe. And since the backups are being stored in immutable repos, I'm forced to enable active full backups, which is causing my repos to run low on space.

Hello,

if you mean the opposite of what you wrote: synthetic fulls take no space on XFS / REFS. Otherwise the size is the same as for active full.

Best regards,
Hannes
