VMware x Hyper-v transport mode

Hello,

Does anyone know if the transport mode works on Hyper-v as it works on VMWare?

I have an environment VMware with Veeam installed on VM and I noticed that my Luns are mounted on the Veeam VM server when I start a job. This mode is perfect because is very fast and does not use my network.

If I install a Veeam Server VM on Hyper-v I will have the same behavior?

Hello, for Hyper-V you need to use the "off-host" backup mode to achieve the same. This requires installing a VSS Hardware Provider from your primary storage vendor. Please review our User Guide for Hyper-V backups, it explains all Hyper-V backup modes in great details. Thanks!

with a virtual machine, that can work with iSCSI (but you would know about that, because it needs additional configuration). Just to be sure, what backup mode do you see in the job logs?

For each VM, there should be an entry like

Using backup proxy proxy.lab.intern for disk Hard disk 1 [hotadd]

I'm pretty sure, that you also have "hotadd".

Hello,

I was checking my customer's environment and I noticed that the Veeam Server is a separate host connected by ethernet cable and the storage and Hyper-v hosts are connected on SCSI switch.
Another problem is the storage, I was checking VSS tested storage in the documentation, and his Dell CT-SCv3020 is not homologated by Veeam.

theoretically almost every storage works with Hardware VSS / Off-host proxy (there is no "supported" list in general)

In reality, it's hard to find a working combination of VSS provider, storage firmware etc. I would always go for on-host proxy.

Thank you for the information. In my Veeam installed on Vmware cluster I figured out what you said above "Using backup proxy proxy.lab.intern for disk Hard disk 1 [hotadd]".
I'm new in Veeam with Hyper-v, sorry....
Only one more information. If I install the Veeam server and proxy as a VM on Hyper-v cluster I can get the same behavior that I get in my VMware?

no, Hyper-V is different from a backup mode perspective. "On-host proxy" is strongly recommended for your situation (being new with that setup).
