Absorbing Another Veeam Backup Server

Post by stryker54141 »

Our business just absorbed another company. The other company has their own vCenter, one physical ESX host, and Veeam server.

Is it possible to add their ESX host to our existing vCenter, import their Veeam repository, and setup a backup job of their VMs (mapped to their repository) on our Veeam server while keeping the backup chain intact? I was worried that by moving their ESX host from their vCenter to ours it would change the machine IDs and the backup chain would start over.

I've been searching through the forums and can't find an answer, so I apologize if this scenario has already been addressed and I missed the post.

Hello

Yes, VM MorefIDs won‘t be the same between vCenter and ESXI. Backup Chains won‘t continue.

You could use our Quick Migration feature which will update the MoRefID in the Veeam database:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120

1) add the esxi host to veeam
2) import backups and map a new job to the imported backup chain
3) Quick Migrate VMs from the standalone ESXi to the vCenter environment.
4) remove the ESXi host from veeam
5) Add ESXi to the vCenter.

Or use our unsupported script for the MoRef migration:
https://www.veeam.com/kb2136

(Disclaimer: This script may not work, because it was written for vCenter to vCenter Migrations, not ESXi to vCenter)
