Hi All

Case #05925907 — Teams chats backup

I‘m recently testing a new feature in Veeam 6.1 Backup Teams chats

And i met a problem :

Microsoft API and VBO have been configured according to the KB4340

Backup job had select Chats，and the job finished without warning

But in explore there are no Chats data

Has anyone else had the same problem as me? Have you solved it yet? How did you solve it?

Hey Robert,

So if you go to the Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Teams, you cannot see any chats in the channels of Microsoft Teams? Note that you have to click on one of the channels first before you can see that data

Posts tabs are where you should look into - all channel chats are displayed there.

I can see team chat in post ,what about personal chat?

Personal chats are not yet supported as part of Teams backup.

Our customers used to protect them with a workaround as part of users' mailbox backup (personal chats were archived to the TeamsMessagesData folder in the user's mailbox), but these days Microsoft is deprecating access to this folder, and in most M365 organizations this workaround is not working anymore.

@Polina: Just to be sure, the depraction of EWS access to the "TeamsMessagesData" folder also affects the 1:1 chats stored in the user mailboxes? So, as soon as Microsoft disables access, user chats cannot be backed up (with the workaround) anymore?

If so, I think there are some sections in the helpcenter which need to be updated.

Your understanding is correct.
The documentation will also be updated once the deprecation is fully completed, and we know that such changes take time to be rolled out across all tenants and regions. There're still certain organizations that still can use EWS access.
