Office Suite required on Veeam BR server?

I have a colleague that installed Office 2013 on our BR server years ago and when I asked why, said it was required for restoring some office application items... I didn't challenge him more than that as he's usually correct. Now that we're a few more years down the line I'm wondering if this is accurate? His reply this morning when I asked if I could remove Office Professional Suite was "application aware restores requires it". I've searched the Veeam requirements etc, but cannot find anything that confirms this, so I'm reaching out

Microsoft Outlook is required if you want to export PST's from an Exchange Backup with Veeam Explorer for Exchange:
