Hi,
It is possible to build a backup chain with a 30days retention policy without a periodical full backup?
In my case, it isn't possible to create a periodical fullback. Fullbackup offsite takes 6days
regards Ralph

Re: Wasabi and incremental Backup retention
Hello Ralph
Yes.
Object Storage is forever forward incremental. With the default setting your regular full backups won‘t use the entire space.
SOBR Capacity Tier: If you do a full backup (synthetic, active fulls) on performance tier, only changed blocks will be offloaded to object storage.
Direct to Object Storage + Object Storage in performance tier: Forever Incremental per default. Only optional scheduled Active Fulls will use the entire space.
How do you use your object storage? SOBR or direct?
Best,
Fabian

Re: Wasabi and incremental Backup retention
Hi Fabian,
planned setup is direct.
If I calculate 10GB/d incremental backup so my "chain size" after 1 year is about 5,65TB (2TB start + 365x10GB). Fullbackupsize maybe 2,5TB.
hmm, i hoped for a reverse incremental option

Re: Wasabi and incremental Backup retention
Why reverse incremental? It‘s not available for direct backup to object storage.
There are no backup files in object storage. A restore point is split into 1MB blocks. Those blocks will be stored to object storage as objects. Only unique blocks will be stored on object storage.
Every day, 10GB of new blocks will be offloaded. There won‘t be a new full upload of 2.5TB. When you restore data, your backup server will only read those objects which will be necessary to restore the required files or machine.
Best,
Fabian
