Hello
I am using Backup & Replication V12 with vSphere.
Locally I do a daily backup to a hard drive (USB) that is always connected. This works fine so far.
Now I want to make a backup copy to a remote site via SMB. This also works as long as I do not use Rotated Disk.
As soon as I use a rotated disk and change the hard disk at the remote site daily (each backup disk has a full backup on it), a new full backup is always created. The backup repository is set to "continue an existing backup chain".
I don't have enough bandwidth to transfer a full backup daily.
Is that normal? Any ideas for another solution?
Thanks

Re: Backup Copy with rotated Disks
hi
Welcome to the forum.
This is expected behaviour for rotated disks over SMB:

If you want to continue the chain after swapping the disk, you must connect the usb disks to a windows repository server.
Best,
Fabian

Hi Fabian
What do you meat with: "you must connect the usb disks to a windows repository server". Over Network this is not possible?
Thanks

Re: Backup Copy with rotated Disks
A windows repository server can also be used "over network". In that scenario, you connect the USB disk to a windows server or windows client machine in your remote site. In the Veeam console, you create a repository from type direct attached storage. You can then add the windows server which you have connected the usb drive as the repository server and the path you choose the drive letter of your USB hard drive.
