Throttling in file share backups

Post by perjonsson1960 »

Folks,

Do the network traffic rules apply to file share backups at all? Or is it only the I/O control in the file share properties that has any effect?

And the second question; I lowered the I/O control slider one step towards "Lower impact" while the backup job is running, and it doesn't seem to have any effect.
Thus, is the I/O control setting only checked at the beginning of a file share backup, and not "on the fly"?

Hi PJ

We can use Network Traffic Rules between Veeam infrastructure components.
If you create a backup from a managed file server, traffic rules get applied.
For SMB or NFS shares, we cannot apply them.

I/O control is a job setting. Therefore it has to be set before the job starts.
If you change it while a job is running, only the next job session will use the new settings.
