Choice of virtualized veeam or physical server

Post by calamarz »

Hello,

I want to back up my vms located on 3 esx 6.7U3 with veeam but for the moment I ask the question of security I explain to myself should I rather install veeam on a VM hosted on one of the ESX or rather on a PC/ physical dedicated server see why not virtualize the Veeam server on a new dedicated ESX? Indeed I want to save the VMs locally but also at my service provider and in the idea I especially want to secure block the infrastructure against in particular the cryptolocker.

THANKS,

Hello, the data protection best practice dictates that a backup server should not rely in any way on the system it is designed to protect, because it complicates the recovery. If you don't have concern of recovery taking a long time due to you being unable to access the Veeam server after some ESXi issue, then you can run Veeam in a VM. Approximately half of our customers do that, typically those are SMB customers. Thanks!
