VeeamONE Placement thoughts

Post by nevram »

Hi,

We have set up our Veeam backup environment, separated from the production network using physical NICs, VLANs and firewalls. We want to install VeeamONE with B&R integration to get a good overview of the status of our environment, however, I am unsure whether to install it into the production network or the backup network.

I raised a case with Veeam and they said they could not help with questions relating to best practices. My current trail of thought is to install it within the backup environment as that will require the least amount of open ports.

Sorry if the details are a little vague, but hopefully that's ok as this is more of an overview than something specific regarding our environment.. I would appreciate your opinions about the best placement of the VeaamONE server, thanks!

Hello Matthew,
Moving to the Backup Network will make things easier without a doubt, and you can open just the Veeam ONE Client, and Web Client ports to your management network where you can consume it.

Another option is to keep it Management, and then make sure you open all the needed ports to your Backup Network, Veeam ONE does not require that many - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/one/d ... ml?ver=120

I would probably go for option 1 myself.

I am also in the process of deciding where best to place Veeam One. My one thought is to just place it on the server where B&R is installed. What are your thoughts about installing it there?

Hello Jon,
It would work, but knowing how hungry is Veeam ONE due the nature of the software, and knowing the SQL part could take a lot of resources. I would recommend not to mix them no.

I would look at the next link, do some quick maths, and create an specific VM/VMs for it - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/one/d ... ml?ver=120

Thank you.
