Linux Proxy with NVMe over TCP

Post by SkyDiver79 »

Hello,
Does anyone have any experience with Linux backup proxies and Direct SAN Access via NVMe over TCP?
In the documentation about Direct SAN Access I can't find anything about NVMe over Fabric.

Hello,

A direct connection to a storage system can be established over FC, FCOE, iSCSI. As far as I understand, NVMe is just another protocol that is not supported for Direct SAN mode.

Thanks!

Can you declare, why is NVMe over Fabric not supported? NVMeoF is native supported since Kernel 3.1 like iSCSI.
Is there an technical Issue or only a Supporting Issue?

NVMe over FC is not supported. NVMe/TCP is even newer than that and probably even further away from being supported. (Bigger trick is to get the underlying storage to make a snapshot and then present the namespace to the host with a unique path so that multiple jobs can run against the same source namespace at the same time. )

See the the thread started 3 years ago at vmware-vsphere-f24/nvme-of-support-for- ... 68346.html for the backstory.

We were all hoping it would be supported in v12 but we had no such luck.

NVMe-oF support is on our priority list, you can review this related discussion for some context. Thanks!
