Seeding copy job with Azure Databox

Post by WimVD »

Hi,

Veeam documentation for V12 explains seeding with Azure Databox but only for performance or capacity tiers in a scale-out repo.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120

Is this also supported for seeding a copy job to Azure object storage?

A quick question before we recommend something - are planning to seed immutable or non-immutable backups? Thanks!

Just wanted to share that seeding a copy job with Azure Databox was a smooth experience.
Regarding immutability we had no choice but to enable it.
Because version was configured on the object storage the veeam create repository wizard forced us to enable it.
We had some doubts if this would cause problems but everything looks fine.
Immutability seems to be applied and the copy job has been running fine for weeks now.
It would be nice to get official confirmation on support for seeding + immutability.

Azure Databox does not support immutability itself, so we have not tested or claimed support for post-seeding immutability enablement on backups transferred to Azure Blob via this device.

We cannot guarantee that everything will work smoothly going forward, moreover, already transferred full will not have immutability, deeming increments useless in case of a malware attack. We recommend running an active full to propagate an immutability setting – without it, the immutability configuration will be applied only to incremental restore points created after initial seeding.

Thanks!

Thanks Vladimir, kind of the answer I was expecting.
We also have an on-prem hardened repository so immutability for the Azure copy would have been nice but not really required.
Unless other official information comes out we will avoid immutability in combination with seeding to object storage.

I will update the thread, if anything changes (but it still will be a question more to Azure to support immutability on Databoxes first). Thanks!
