Secure Restore and Azure IaaS

Post by bluewave »

Hi,

The majority of our server estate are running as Azure VMs and we have other servers running on a on-premise Hyper-V cluster. All Azure and on-prem servers are being backed up by our Azure based Veeam BR v12 server, the Azure VMs are backed up via the Veeam Azure Appliance using an Azure blob external repository. We are looking at scanning restored VMs using Secure Restore but this doesn't seem possible if we try and restore an Azure VM back to Azure, it looks possible if restoring to another cloud provider (AWS or Google) or restoring to our on-premise Hyper-V cluster.
Has anyone come across this type of requirement and are there any other options for scanning a restore of a Azure IaaS VM for malware?

Thanks.

Hi,

that is correct, Secure Restore is a Veeam Backup & Replication feature. And as if you restore an Azure VM back to Azure the restore is done within Veeam Backup for Azure, Secure Restore is not available.
While when you restore to on-prem or a different Cloud, data will go through VBR and allow you to perform the secure restore.

Hope that helps.
Thanks
