rebrading our company

Hi,
We are using VOB365 version 7 and we are also in the process of rebranding our comapny and our name is going to changed and with that we are going to rename our sharepoint online and users emailaddress en user upn's (only suffix part), how this will impact our current backups? do we have to re-add the organization to VOB365? what will happen with old backups?

Hi Mrshahin,

SharePoint Online can be renamed and we will be able to protect it. However, the bigger problem is that you most likely will rename AAD also and that is something we cannot handle at this point in time, which will mean you will need to re-add it. This is one of the items which is being looked into by our teams but no resolution at this point in time. Older backups do remain available though. You can keep those.

You are right, the Azure AD will also be renamed as part of the rebranding, you siad the older backup will remain available! but when we for example restore Onedrive data or mail items from old backups, where would it get restored? will it restore in the mailbox and Onedrive with new address?

Hi Pietje,

There's always an option to specify the location where you want to restore data to; and it exists for mailboxes, as well as OneDrive accounts and sites.

for now we are going only to rename the url of the sharepoint online and not the user's UPN and email address. you menationed that "SharePoint Online can be renamed and we will be able to protect it" is this means we dont have to reconfigure the VFO?

Hi Pietje,

It depends on your backup job configuration. Jobs containing an entire organization or organization/sites will run seamlessly out of the box; while jobs containing explicitly selected specific sites will need to be reconfigured (you'll need to re-add the required sites).

how can we resotre the old back? I mean the backups that was made before the renaming of the Sharepoint?I understand that those backups are still available for resotre.

We just renamed our sharepoint site and as we expected Sharepoint backup is not working. there are no problem with the Teams and mailbox backups.
Can we leave the old organization and disable the backup jobs and use this one to resore the old backups and create a new organization that point to the new url of the Sharepoint and create the jobs? or we must reove the organization that point to the oldSharepoint url?
