Feature Request - Restore VM and specify disks

Post by alex.pajor »

Hi,
Trying to restore a VM for testing purposes and found that you can't just restore the C Drive. Request is to add the ability to restore the c drive on the VM to a new location as opposed to going through the hoops for disk restore.
Support recommended these steps but this is not going to work.

Hello Alex

Welcome to the forum.
What do you mean with new location? Do you want to restore the entire VM to a new location, but only Disk C?
As you may know you can do that by restoring only the VM Files directly to the vSphere datastore. Then create a new VM and mount the restored disk.

May I ask, why Instant Recovery of the entire VM does not work for your scenario?
One use case for Instant Recovery (and SureBackup/Virtual Labs) is testing updates or configuration changes in an isolated environment without using the productive machine. Booting up additional disks with drive C shouldn't matter much when testing something on drive C.
