Hello,
I'm just looking for a sanity check, making sure I've configured this correctly. I'm using VBR12 with local NAS AND Azure Immutability (hot and archive tiers) as the storage locations. I'm backing up files off a File server (file level backup), and would like a monthly full backup, with daily incrementals. I'd like 6 months backups kept in Azure. The backups I'd like kept in the hot tier for 65 days, then moved over to the Archive tier for the remaining 4 months-ish.
The backup job itself is configured such that:
Storage tab
Backup Repository - "Backup repository SOBR - Immutability"
Retention Policy - 31 days
Keep certain full backups longer for archival purposes - 6 monthly
Advanced button
Backup tab - Active full backup - Create active full backups periodically - First Saturday of every month
Schedule tab
Daily at 12:30 am
*****************
The "Backup repository SOBR - Immutability" SOBR is configured such:
Performance Tier tab
Extent - local NAS
Capacity Tier tab
Extend Scale-out backup repository capacity with object storage - Hot tier (with immutability)
Copy backups to object storage as soon as they are created - selected!
Move backups to object storage as they age out of the operational restore windows - selected - 35 days specified
Archive Tier tab
Archive GFS full backups to object storage - selected - Archive tier (with immutability) specified
Archive GFS backups older than 65 days
*****************
The Azure Hot tier (with immutability) is configured such:
Container tab
Make recent backups immutable for 35 days
*****************
The Azure Archive tier (with immutability)is configured such:
Container tab
Make backups immutable for the entire duration of their retention period
*****************
Does this look right?
I'm wondering if I should be bumping up the Retention Policy on the storage tab of the backup job to 35 days.
Many thanks in advance,
Bill.

Re: Sanity check on file server configuration
A quick comment - if you are storing GFS restore points on Capacity Tier for 65 days, while the immutability is set to 35 days, there will be a period during which the restore points stored on Capacity extent will be non-immutable.
