NAS backups to tape in B&R v12

Post by perjonsson1960 »

Folks,

If I create a tape backup job in B&R v12, and add our File Share backups to that job, will B&R still use the 10 GB limited SQL Express database for storing folder and file entries, or is that information stored elsewhere in v12? If it is still using the SQL Express database, then we cannot do NAS backups to tape, because the database will get full. We have millions of files and folders on the NAS.

Kind regards,
PJ

Hi PJ

It's still in the database.
I suggest you migrate the configuration database to PostgreSQL which doesn't have the limitation of 10GB.

Fabian,

I see.

Is the PostgreSQL Database Engine installed by B&R in the backup server, or do we have to install that ourselves prior to migrating?

Hi PJ

- For upgrades from earlier versions (V10a, V11, V11a): You need to install PostgreSQL by yourself. We recommend the latest 15.x version for Veeam Backup & Replication v12.
- For new installations: PostgreSQL is the default database and therefore automatically installed by Veeam

@ Mildur: If I have a Veaam-Config-Backup from a other Database, can I do a restorer to a PostgreSQL installation?

Yes, if the config backup is taken from V12.

My experience was different. The Postgres installer is included in the CD image though.

I also had a number of issues with tapes after the migration. They are all solved, and if you search my posts, you'll find out how we (support and I) solved them. Hopefully your experience will be better than mine.

It's impossible that your experience was different as V12 physically doesn't include SQL Express redistributable. As such, PostgreSQL is the only option for new installations.
