Clarifying Veeam Agent is what I need

Post by tommls »

It's been awhile since I worked with Veeam and most of my experience is backing up virtual servers with the B&R software.
Now I need a good software for backing up at least two physical Windows devices, probably to a small NAS:
1) one desktop with a USB storage drive attached to it
2) one notebook
I think Windows Agent is what I need...
Could someone please confirm that Windows Agent will do the following:
1) back up the C: (OS, software, etc.) drive and any/all data drives regardless if they are USB storage
2) create backups with which I can do bare metal restores to either a physical device or a virtual machine
What is the licensing?? I read it uses Universal Licensing, I have only ever experienced the older perpetual licensing.
Thank you, Tom

Hello,

1. Yes, Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows can backup Entire workstation including the USB Drives. You can select it during the back scope selection. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=60

2. Yes, with Veeam Recovery Media you can restore entire machine. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=60

The Veeam Universal License is an instance-based licensing model, which means it is based on the number of instances (or workloads). https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=60

I do not want to use Windows Agent with B&R so I should not need any Universal License to use it on two different devices??
I'm wanting to use this software by itself, not with B&R.
Thank you, Tom

Hi,
I'm using it as you like to do. I don't know how it is possible to do BMR to a virtual machine.
Imho it is not possible.

Regards
Volker

Hi,

Yes, it is possible to do BMR with Virtual Machine. You will need Veeam Recovery Media and Entire machine backup, which will be used to restore volumes, disk etc.
Please take a look following User Guide: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=60
